Some things that the different fables have in common were that the most names of the stories said something about the 2 animals, the main characters. For example: “The Lion and the Mouse” and “The Fox and the Crow”. Another was that all the fables had a meaning in them, they weren’t just simple stories. People could actually learn something from them.
In de fables there are always 2 identified characters. One is the smart one and the other one is the one who is too confident, which makes this character stupid.
In for example in the fable Lion and the Mouse the moral is that good deeds are rewarded. This is so because the lion let the mouse lose, and the mouse remembered this good deed and freed him from a net. In the Fox and the Crow the moral is be aware of flattery. This is because the fox wanted to obtain the cheese by making the crow sing, so it would fall out of his beak. So the strategy the fox used for completing his goal, was to say flattering things to the crow. In the Ant and the Dove the moral is the same as the one of the Lion and the Mouse, good deeds are rewarded. When the ant falls in the river and couldn’t get out of the water, the dove helped him. Because of this good deed the ant saves the dove, by stopping a person who wanted to shoot the dove. In another story, The bundle of sticks, the moral is that union gives strength.
Own Fable
The big help the small In the woods, far away from anything else, lived a group of animals, a bear, a deer, an owl and a family of rabbits and squirrels. They were all friends and always helped each other. When they were hungry, the squirrels shared their nuts with the others. When one them lost their house or hole, all of them went searching for a new one. One day the bear was totally panicky. The ran up to the others and screamed, ‘there are men everywhere! They have guns and chainsaws!’ all of the animals were in shock. The rabbits started crying. ‘I just got 11 children,’ she cried. No one knew what to do. ‘We could move to another place,’ the deer said. ‘Not an option,’ the rabbit said. ‘My babies can’t hop yet. Let’s first see what their plans are,’ the owl said, and he flew away. In the evening, when the owl was back, he told the others what he had seen. ‘It’s terrible,’ he said ‘all the trees with a red cross are taken down by the men.’ They all looked around and all they saw were trees marked with a red cross. ‘We have to go’ the deer yelled. ‘How?’ one squirrel asked. ‘my family and I can’t travel that far. ‘My children also can’t travel,’ the rabbit said. ‘Then we have to help each other’ the bear said. ‘I can take your family on my back,’ the bear said to the rabbit. ‘I can take the 5 squirrels on my back,’ the deer said. ‘I know a forest 5 miles away from here, my family lives there, they’ve never seen any humans there, so let’s go!’ The next day first they all helped to get the little rabbits on the back of the bear. When everyone found their place they started walking. For the bear, the deer and the owl 5 miles wasn’t an enormous distance. By nightfall they arrived in the new forest. ‘We made it!’ the deer screamed. At that moment the little opened their little eyes and looked around. ‘Where are we mom?’ one asked. ‘This is the place where you’ll grow up sweetheart,’ she replied. And so they got to their new home, because they helped each other and that’s what friends are for.
